Charity & Food Pantry Committee

The Charity & Food Pantry Committee at IHMC Church is responsible for organizing and overseeing outreach efforts that serve the physical needs of the community, particularly those who are poor, hungry, or vulnerable. Our work is a practical expression of Catholic social teaching and the Church’s mission to serve Christ in others.

Primary Responsibilities:

1. Food Distribution

  • Operate or support a food pantry that provides groceries to individuals and families in need.

  • Coordinate food drives monthly at San Juan Diego room.

  • Maintain inventory, sort donations, and ensure food safety standards are met.

2. Charitable Outreach

  • Assist parishioners and local residents with basic needs such as clothing, household items, utility assistance, or rent support (as resources allow).

3. Collaboration and Referrals

  • Work with Catholic Charities, local shelters, RGV Food Bank, and other nonprofits to expand their reach and resources.

4. Community Building and Evangelization

  • Help foster a culture of compassion and service within the parish.

  • Offer opportunities for parishioners to volunteer and engage in the Church’s mission of mercy and justice.

Spiritual Dimension:

While the work is material in nature, it is deeply rooted in Gospel values:

  • “For I was hungry, and you gave me food…” Matthew 25:35

  • Emphasizes the Corporal Works of Mercy, especially feeding the hungry and clothing the naked.

The Charity & Food Pantry Committee accepts food and monetary donation in the parish office.  They meet the 3rd Thursday of every month from 10:00am-12:00pm. Volunteers are always welcomed to serve the Lord.
