Knights of Columbus
The Knights of Columbus is a Catholic fraternal organization for men that promotes charity, unity, fraternity, and patriotism, while actively supporting the Church, the clergy, and family life. It is one of the largest Catholic lay organizations in the world, with millions of members and councils in parishes across many countries.
Who They Are

Founded: In 1882 by Blessed Father Michael J. McGivney, a parish priest in New Haven, Connecticut.

Purpose: To support Catholic men in living out their faith through service, fellowship, and spiritual growth.

Membership: Open to practicing Catholic men aged 18 and older.

Structure: Organized into local councils, usually based in parishes.

What the Knights Do
In the Parish:

Serve as ushers, lectors, or Eucharistic ministers.

Organize rosaries, Holy Hours, and Marian devotions.

Support vocations and provide assistance to seminarians.

Help with parish events, repairs, and community-building activities.
In the Community:

Run food drives, blood drives, and support local shelters or crisis centers.

Host fundraisers for children with disabilities, pro-life causes, or families in need.

Promote Catholic education and support scholarship programs.
For the Church:

Defend and promote Church teaching.

Publicly support life, marriage, religious freedom, and the role of the family.

Financially support the Vatican, dioceses, and Church institutions.
Degrees of Membership

First to Third Degrees: Focus on the core values: charity, unity, fraternity.

Fourth Degree: Emphasizes patriotism and often involves wearing the distinctive regalia at ceremonial events and processions.
