Besides being cured, what do Nathan (first reading) and the leper who thanked Jesus (Gospel) have in common? Both of them began to believe. Nathan proclaims Israel’s God to be the only God. The only leper who returned to thank Jesus was “glorifying God in a loud voice” (Luke 17:15). It makes me wonder, what miracles do we see that help us grow in faith? 
 

For an answer, we can look at a second thing they had in common: they both asked for help. Sometimes we get caught up in self-sufficiency mode, thinking we have to handle all our problems by ourselves. We may miss out on ways to solve those problems by not asking for help. If you think asking for help is a sign of weakness, you may be missing a chance for God to act through one of your friends and give you support. And, of course, you can ask God for help in prayer. 
 

We may have friends who help us in times of need or inspire us with their faith, but we have to decide to make a leap of faith ourselves. The third thing that Nathan and the leper did in common was express their faith. You can spend your whole life thinking that you are a Christian, but if you never express that faith, it will be just a theory. St. Paul in the second reading, for example, was suffering in prison, but he didn’t mind because his suffering demonstrated the importance of Jesus’ message to him. So he wrote from prison in the hope that other Christians would be encouraged in their faith. Perhaps you know of someone who inspired you with their faithfulness and dedication. Having a friend who helps us grow in faith can be a very nice miracle indeed.

Además de la curación, ¿qué tienen en común Natán en la primera lectura y el leproso que dio gracias a Jesús en el Evangelio? Ambos comenzaron a creer. Natán proclama que el Dios de Israel es el único Dios. El único leproso que regresó para agradecer a Jesús estaba "alabando a Dios en voz alta" (Lucas 17,15). Me pregunto: ¿qué milagros vemos que nos ayudan a crecer en la fe? 

 

Para encontrar la respuesta, podemos considerar otra cosa que tenían en común: ambos pidieron ayuda. A veces nos dejamos llevar por la autosuficiencia, pensando que tenemos que resolver todos los problemas solos. Podemos perder maneras de resolverlos al no pedir ayuda. Si piensas que pedir ayuda es señal de debilidad, quizás estés perdiendo la oportunidad de que Dios actúe a través de uno de tus amigos y te brinde apoyo. Y, por supuesto, puedes pedirle ayuda a Dios en oración. 

 

Puede que tengamos amigos que nos ayuden en momentos de necesidad o que nos inspiren con su fe, pero nosotros mismos debemos decidir dar un salto de fe. La tercera cosa que Natán y el leproso hicieron en común fue expresar su fe. Puedes pasarte la vida creyendo ser cristiano, pero si nunca expresas esa fe, será solo una teoría. San Pablo, en la segunda lectura, por ejemplo, sufría en prisión, pero no le importó porque su sufrimiento demostraba la importancia del mensaje de Jesús. Así que escribió desde la cárcel con la esperanza de que otros cristianos se sintieran alentados en su fe. Quizás conozcas a alguien que te inspiró con su fidelidad y dedicación. Tener un amigo que nos ayude a crecer en la fe puede ser un milagro muy bonito.​​
